What Is Software Testing?
Recently, software glitches have increasingly affected the average consumer – at airports, or with online banking. Often, we hear that the software wasn’t properly tested. But what does this mean exactly?
SAP.info deals with this question and Hans Hartmann gives the answer.

 November 10, 2009, in Vienna

Ing. Andreas Kolb, head of quality assurance & testing at Raiffeisen Zentralbank Österreich AG, and Thomas Scheichenstein, senior software testing consultant at OBJENTIS Software Integration, will speak about testing a global data warehouse based on the practical example of the Raiffeisen Bank Group.

The LSZ Software Testing Conference focuses on current trends and developments in both the research and practical business fields. Experts will discuss approaches for testing user interfaces and dealing with the rapid increase in the complexity of IT projects, as well as realistic project planning.

As OBJENTIS can report from practice, testing a data warehouse differs significantly from testing conventional applications. In addition to presenting the theoretical model used for testing the data warehouse, the “field report” will highlight tried and tested solutions developed over the past several years of project work within the Raiffeisen Bank Group, for which OBJENTIS served as a partner. The presentation will focus especially on the areas of time and cost estimation, risk calculation and the loading of test data, to include valuable examples.

L.S.Z Consulting has over 20 years of experience as a market research and services provider exclusively to the IT sector, including the organization of industry and technology conferences. Since 2003, L.S.Z Consulting has expanded its partnerships in the market research sector and now represents Forrester Research in Austria.

Software Test-Automation was the title of conference contribution of Mr. Hans Hartmann, Test Director of OBJENTIS. In his presentation Mr. Hartmann introduced well proven structures of testautomation for the IBM Lotus Notes platform.

Particular challenge: standard tools for automation do not succeed, so new and innovative ways are in demand. His contribution was awarded "best paper" on September 27th, 2008. Congratulations to our Test Director - and thanks to the organizer for the award!

As part of its “Economic Testing” initiative, OBJENTIS will be at CONQUEST 2008 to present innovative approaches for software test automation solutions. The OBJENTIS presentation will examine a test automation structure that has been successfully implemented for a large insurance provider. Specifically, the focus will be on automation projects that use the Lotus Notes platform, and how to overcome the challenges that conventional automation tools simply are not equipped to overcome within the context of an “out-of-the-box” solution.

The presentation is not intended to provide a ready-to-use recipe, but rather to show a pragmatic approach for implementing automated regression testing while at the same time keeping costs within reason.
